Wednesday, June 15

Nicholas is doing this thing called "Mission Vacation". He basically makes each vacation sound like a spy mission, outlining your missions and goals. It's pretty neat.

Today was the last day of driving class. We filled out some documents and did some more driving. All I need to do now is bring a form to Student Services and then I can drive!

Nicholas has started playing a game called Spiral Knights. It's a pretty good game. I'm getting ready to start Xenoblade Chronicles after this.

Here's the weird thing of the day!

Tuesday, June 14

Tomorrow is my grandmother's birthday. Me and my brother made her a picture frame. It's made of wood. I burned some designs onto it. I think it looks pretty good.

I went to driving class today. Today, we did long distance driving, and I got my first taste of driving on a highway. It wasn't too bad, and I'm proud to say that I was only partially scared out of my wits.

Retainers are annoying. You have to take them out whenever you eat, and then you have to remember to put it back on. When you leave it out for a while, it starts to stink so you have to clean it. When you put it in your mouth, you can ignore it, but you have to take it out again whenever you eat, even if its a snack. The vicious cycle of retainer care.

Well, that's all for today (cuz I cant think of anything else). Here's the weird thing:

Monday, June 13 (Revival!)

The blog is revived! Again!

Its summer too!
The absence of school is pretty sudden, it feels kind of weird not having so much work to do. Then again, though, it IS pretty relaxing.

Today, I learned how to drive.

It was pretty fun driving around, even if I was a little scared. We drove around to a couple of places, and practiced turning, parking, and backing.

The pedals are really sensitive, so a slight touch can make you accelerate really fast.

Aaaaand here's the weird thing of the day!

Experience with FRCSim (Also the 100th Post!)

FRC is a robotics competition where teams make robots that do challenges. Today, I attempted to set up Eclipse for FRC and download a virtual simulator. To put things simply, it was quite painful to accomplish.

The virtual simulator only supports Ubuntu. And by Ubuntu, I mean ONLY Ubuntu. My computer used to be Linux Mint, and after 30 minutes trying to install everything, I finally found out that the virtual simulator only supports Ubuntu. I had to reinstall Ubuntu onto my computer.

After an hour or two of installing, Ubuntu was finally ready for use. Except for the Internet. The wifi dongle on my Linux box had caused problems in the past, and had to have a driver downloaded to be able to receive wifi.

Thankfully, the people at FRC gave us commands to put in the command prompt to "easily download everything". The download took about 10 minutes, and it downloaded Eclipse and the virtual simulator. Things were starting to look up! Nope, the "easy" command that FRC gave us was missing a very important part, the actual virtual worlds. So we downloaded the .zip file, called worlds.zip, and put all the worlds in.

The simulator finally looked like it was ready! I ran the program, and the world loaded! There were still problems, though, such as the terribly slow speed and the fact that the robot was stuck in the ground, but everything else was good!

This is what I learned today:
  • Gazebo (the virtual sim) only works on Ubuntu
  • The Edimax wifi dongle sucks
  • Remember to also download the worlds.zip with FRC's command
  • Use a good computer

Java Stuffs (and snow)

This is what I did in my Java class!

  1. How to use the BlueJ environment (it sucks)
  2. How to use for loops
  3. Java Syntax
That's about it for the Java class. I started a Python class too. Here is what I learned
  1. How to print text
  2. How to open Python
As you can probably see,

Oh yeah, and it snowed today too.

Sunday, November 22

This blog has become neglected.
I'm gonna start it again, but now only once a week.

So...what did I do this week?

List:

  • Robotics Meeting
  • Physics and French Tests
  • Presentations of C&C Projects
Aaaaaaaaaand that's about it.

Descriptions:

  • Robotics Meeting
We talked about Kickoff and the next few meetings. Then Electrical and Programming started to work on the Test Board and in making a Raspberry Pi Slideshow and a Raspberry Pi Data Informer Thingy. I worked on coding the Test Board and setting up the Pi's.
  • Physics and French Tests
Self explanatory, I took some tests. I studied a bit.
  • Presentations of C&C Projects
We presented our projects. I thought that my friend Rohan's was good, and so was the Hades group. We were Poseidon and Polyphemus.

Sunday, September 6

Today, I was in DC. I went to many museums. First, I went to the Spy museum. We went outside and found some things outside. Then, we looked at the exhibits inside. There were many spy-related objects, and a lot of James Bond stuff.
The next museum we went to was the United States Botanical Garden. There were many plants there, such as orchids and trees. The special exhibition was about roots. Some roots where as long as two people!
In addition, we went to the Museum of American Indians. We saw many things related to Native Americans.
Afterwards, we went to the Air and Space Museum. There, we saw how planes fly and some future space programs and things. There was one prototype that flew by a laser that makes small explosions! I think it is called Lightcraft, but I'm not sure.
After all the museums, we went to the Peking Duck place, but there were so many people that we had to wait two hours! Instead, we waited 20 minutes to take some duck out. It tasted pretty good.
