Wednesday, August 5

Today, I had more chemistry. We did an activity today called Half-life Simulation.
Materials:

  • 100 Pennies
  • Shoebox
  • Graph paper
Instructions:
  1. Put the 100 pennies into the shoebox
  2. Make sure that they are all heads up.
  3. Close the shoebox.
  4. Shake the box vigorously.
  5. Open the box
  6. Count how many pennies are tails up in the shoebox
  7. Record your data
  8. Remove the tails-up pennies
  9. Close the box
  10. Repeat steps 4 through 9 four times
  11. Use the data to plot a graph
  12. Use the class total to plot a graph
This activity is supposed to demonstrate half-life.
